Sandro Chia is born in Florence in 1946 and he is considered one of the most representative figures of contemporary research. During the 1970’s he begins to exhibit in Rome and Europe, gradually moving away from conceptual works towards a more figurative style of painting. Between September 1980 and August 1981 he receives a scholarship from the city of Monchengladbach in Germany where he moves to work for a year. Next year, he goes to New York where he has lived for twenty years. He is a proponent of Transavantgarde that is a cultural movement with many artists as Chia, Clemente, Cucchi, De Maria and Paladino. He is present in many important museums and galleries in the world. He exhibits at Biennial in Paris, in San Paul of Brazil and in different edition of Biennial in Venice. Actually, he lives among Miami, Rome, Castello Romitorio in Montalcino (Siena) where he produces prestigious wines famous in the entire world as Brunello.
