    Andy Warhol is considered one of the greatest genius of his century. He is born in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) on 6th August 1928. He comes from Slovene immigrant family, Rutena ethnic and his real name is Andrew Warhola. between 1945 and 1949 he studies at Carnegie Institut of technology in Pittsburgh. Later, he moves to New York where he works as designer for some magazines: “Vogue”, “Harper’s Bazar”, “Glamour”. He works also as window dresser and he realizes his first advertisings for the shoe industry I. Miller. His firs exhibitions: in 1952 he organizes his first personal exposition at Hugo Gallery in New York; he draws sets; in 1956 he exposes at Bodley Gallery and he presents his Golden Shoes in Madison Avenue. He travels in Europe and Asia. In 1960 he realizes his first paintings referring to comics, advertising pictures. In his works there are: Dick Tracy, Popeye, Superman and Coke. During the Sixties he starts using the print technique used for the serigraphy in 1962. He represents daily objects such as soup cans but also important topics such as Car Crash, Eletric Chair. From his neutral style it is born the Pop-art. In the following years he becomes a business owner of mass creative avant-garde and he creates the “Factory” that could be considered a collective workshop. In the same years he starts working with Leo Castelli. In 1963 he dedicates to the cinema and he makes two features: “Sleep” and “Empire” (1964). In 1964 he exposes at Galerie Sonnabend of Paris and in Leo Castelli’s Gallery in New York. For the American pavilion during the World Expositions in New York he realizes the “Thirteen Most Wanted Men”. The next year he exposes for the Institute of Contemporary Art of Philadelphia. Failed the attempt of creating a music band with La Monte Young and Walter de Maria he joins to the rock band Velvet Underground (of Lou Reed) in 1967. He finances the first disc and he realizes also the cover of the album: a simple yellow banana on white background. In 1968 he suffers an attack in the Factory by Valerie Solanas, a crazy girl who is the only member of S.C.U.M. (society to eliminate men). Besides, he exposes also at Modern Museet in Stockholm, he publishes “A: a novel” and he produces his first movie in collaboration with Paul Morissey: “Flash” followed by “Trash” (1970) and “Heat” (1972). In 1969 he creates the magazine “Interview” about cinema but also fashion, art, culture and social life. From 1969 to 1972 he makes portraits on commission and he writes a book “The philosophy of Andy Warhol (from A to b and back)” edited in 1975. The following year he exposes in Stuttgart, Dusseldorf, Monaco, Berlin, Wien and Zurich. In 1979 the Whitney Museum of New York organizes an expositions about his portraits called “Andy Warhol: Portraits of the 70s”. In 1980 he becomes producer of Andy Warhol’s TV. In 1982 he takes part to Documenta 5 of Kassel. In 1983 he exposes at Cleveland Museum of natural History and he realized a commissioned commemorative poster: Brooklyn Bridge for its centenary. In 1986 he dedicates to Lenin’s portraits and his self-portraits. In his last years he makes a revisiting of the great works of Renaissance: Paolo Uccello, Piero della Francesca, and in particular Leonardo da Vinci, from which he derives “The Last Supper”. He realizes also other works with Francesco Clemente and Jean-Michel Basquiat, the damn of New York artistic scene. Andy Warhol dies in New York on 22nd February 1987 during a simple surgery. In the spring of 1988, 10.000 Andy Warhol’s objects are auctioned by Sotheby’s in order to finance the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. In 1989 the Museum of Modern Art in New York dedicates him a wonderful retrospective.
