    Artist and composer Mark Kostabi is born in Los Angeles in 1960 to Estonian immigrants. He is raised in Whittier, California and studies drawing and painting at California State University, Fullerton. In 1982 he moves to New York and by 1984 he becomes a leading figure of the East Village art scene. In 1988, inspiring extensive international press coverage, he foundes Kostabi World – his large New York studio known for openly employing numerous painting assistants and idea people. By it he confronts with commercialization of contemporary art. He grows by MTV, reading comics and he has Duchamp and Warhol as point of reference. Kostabi, with his multifaceted activity, has designed album covers for Guns ‘N’ Roses (Use Your Illusion) and The Ramones (Adios Amigos), and numerous products including a Swatch watch, computer accessories. He publishes also a lot of books and he produces a TV show. Kostabi paints figure faceless, timelss that can be everybody and nobody, they express human fear in society but also a universal language “My purpose: my pictures give happiness even if they describe stories of loneliness, confusion and isolation”. His works are present in some permanent exhibition of Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Corcoran Gallery of Art, at Museum of Groningen in Holland, Museum of Tallin in Estonia and at Modern Art Gallery in Rome.
